Victorian wool mantelpiece trim, applique flowers

An original 19th century mantelpiece trim or could be used as a pelmet.

Made from wine-red wool with applied flowers & couched gold thread. The reverse is lined with brown cotton.

Signs of age include some moth nips to the wool, some worn away thread & a section missing from the single strand of chenille along the bottom edge.

It still presents nicely & is very typical of the Victorian parlour.
